An Interview with: Rubyellen of Cakies
I recently met the amazing Rubyellen through the blogging community and I have to say she embodies the spirit of the perfect blogging mom. I say perfect because she is open, kind and is willing to let others see her flaws and all, always encouraging other moms to enjoy their time with their children. Her blog Cakies is an incredible source of inspiration, from daily life posts to DIY's, from book recommendations to meal planning, Rubyellen covers all the things that moms are passionate about. I'm so happy to have her over and share with us more about motherhood and blogging. With no more ado:

A Few of your favorite things...
- peanut butter yogurt sprinkled with oreos
- pretty shoes
- watching a good action movie
- days at the flea market
- watching my babies sleep
And my Ben of course!

What is the best thing about being a mom to your little ones?

The best thing are those "in-awe" moments. I have four girls and they are so close in age that I often feel like I'm running around like a chicken with its head cut off, but when I take the time to just be still and really watch them and really listen to what they are saying, I am so amazed that these little beings are part of me. These moments just have me in awe of how precious and sweet they are, despite the havoc they sometimes like to wreak.

What has been your most humbling moment with them?

I was really cranky one afternoon because the house was a mess and True my oldest said, "Mommy, are you loving have a clean house more than God?"

How do you inspire creativity at home?

We have lots of doodling times. There is a family sketchbook that sits on the coffee table and they can always be found doodling in there. Plus, I am always creating, so I think they mimic me and find ways to create little things of their own.

What is their relationship like with your husband?

They adore him. Seriously. Papi is their best friend. They can't go to sleep without having their Papi tickle bug them. He's our Prince Charming.

Which are the biggest lessons you want them to learn?

I want them to love God and enjoy Him in all they do. Next, I want them to love others.

How would you describe your mothering style?

I'm firm and stick to lots of routine and rules (it's the teacher in me), but I believe there should also be a whole lot of play, creating, and being silly. It is all about balance.

What do they think about your blog?

They like seeing pictures of themselves and sometimes they will make something and say, "Mommy, can you take a picture and put it on your blog?" Brave even says she has her own blog. She takes pictures all the time with her toy camera and makes Soul hold things for her to take pictures of. Her pretend blog is called Ladybug.

How do you find time to do it all?

I don't do it all, but I find the time to do the things I do is by having a routine (see #7). The two babies both nap at the same time everyday from 10am - 12pm and 2pm - 5pm, so that gives me time with the big ones to do homeschooling, read, bake, craft, or clean. Usually it is only one of those things. Then at night they all go to bed around 7:30pm, so I try to catch up on emails and blogging. What really suffers is my house. Piles of messes are all over the place!

Any words of wisdom for blogging moms?

Don't come in with expectations, do it because you love to no matter if you have 1 reader or 10,000 readers, and just have fun.

Thank you for sharing with us, Rubyellen! Happy early Mother's Day!
